Psychological Testing
P.O.C.S also provides a wide range of psychological testing services including but not limited to: special education testing, neuropsychological assessment, intelligence testing, vocational readiness assessment, achievement assessment, and substance abuse or dependency assessment just to name a few. The supervising psychologist for this program has more than 15 years experience working with the special education population. The staff also attend IEPs and provide behavioral plans that can be utilized by teachers and parents to enhance the quality of services needed for the students.

Parenting Classes
P.O.C.S provides parenting education and assessment classes that are geared toward teaching parents and other family members functional skills needed to foster pro-social qualities in children. Various positive reinforcement skills are disseminated during formal and informal presentations.

Individual Counseling
A therapist meets with the student, parent and teacher to resolve any issues that may be negatively impacting the student's academic, emotional, vocational, or interpersonal status. Various themes are explored, and goals and objectives are established to resolve the issues. Most issues are typically resolved within ten or twelve sessions.

Discipline Methods
This seminar is geared toward instructing parents to use appropriate disciplinary methods. Parents are taught how to establish fair and firm rules and various ways of reinforcing those rules. Participants engage in role-plays and vignettes in order to reinforce the principles taught This seminar is typically held once a week for four weeks.

Teens & Sexuality
Participants are instructed on various topics relating to sex and sexuality. Preventing unwarranted pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and acting in a responsible manner are just a few examples of the topics that are discussed. This seminar is typically held once a week for four weeks.

Anger Management
Various ways of managing anger and turning it into a productive emotion are presented during this seminar. Participants engage in various role-plays on how to deescalate dangerous situation, and provide practical solutions. This seminar is typically held once a week for four weeks.

Substance Abuse Prevention
Didactic presentations relating to substance abuse prevention and abstinence are presented during this seminar. The major classes of drugs are discussed in addition to how they impact one's physical and psychological well-being. This seminar is typically held once a week for four weeks.

Parent /Teacher Focus Groups
This seminar is geared toward helping the teacher, parent and teacher work together to resolve academic or other issue. This seminar is particularly useful when students are failing academically due to emotional or other problems in the environment. This seminar is typically held once a week for four weeks.

Career and Vocational Exploration
Students, parents and teachers work together to explore the career path that will be most beneficial to the student. Students engage in job seeking activities, mock interviews, and resume writing. This seminar is typically held once a week for four weeks.

Career Testing
Students are given the opportunity to explore various career instruments to determine their strength and weaknesses. Therapists provide feedback on how best the student can determine the most appropriate path to take. This is done on an as needed basis.

Self Esteem and Personal Problem Assessment
Students and their parents are given the opportunity to discuss the various facets of self esteem and how poor self esteem impact academic functioning. Various checklists are completed and discussed.
